Hello! We are the Gable’s [Tony, Iona, Penelope and Olivia]
Our journey with allergies began in 2014 when our daughter Penelope was diagnosed with severe allergies to dairy, peanuts, and tree nuts after experiencing a near fatal anaphylactic reaction to cheese a day after she turned one-year old. Three years later, our second child Olivia was diagnosed with over twenty severe allergies, including six of the top eight allergens.
Like many of you, this has rocked our world and made everyday activities like eating out, traveling, and leaving our children with babysitters, grandparents, schools, and celebrations much more challenging requiring careful planning and thought.
Our mission as parents, are to develop our kids into strong, confident, self-advocates who not only safely manage through live, but thrive, and experience life to the fullest. To do this, we looked everywhere for engaging content, like leading children’s books and characters we all know and love, that would entertain yet educate our kids about allergies from an early age. We noticed that while there are some options, they were few that taught kids awareness, and how to self-advocate across a gambit of scenarios (schools, birthdays, trips, etc.). With our backgrounds in writing, healthcare, and business, we decided to put our hard-earned skills to use to bridge this gap.
Allergy Pals was founded with the mission of helping kids identify, learn about, connect with others, and advocate for themselves in regards to their allergies. Through our website and "Allergy Pals" books, we aim to provide engaging and easy-to-understand education about allergies for children and families, as well as raise awareness about the challenges and how to confidently manage living with complex allergies, and provide a supportive community for kids and families to thrive.
